Oprah Radio Launches The Derrick Ashong Experience

NEW YORK— SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) and Harpo Radio, Inc. today announced the launch of The Derrick Ashong Experience, a live, weekly call-in show hosted by social entrepreneur Derrick N. Ashong on Oprah Radio, Oprah Winfrey's exclusive 24/7 channel.

The Derrick Ashong Experience will launch Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. MT/12 to 3 p.m. ET, with a special live broadcast at The Sundance Film Festival before an audience as part of the “Synchronize Concert Series” at Crown on Main in Park City, Utah. It will also be streamed live on OprahRadio.com. The show will air live Saturdays from 12 to 3 p.m. ET on Oprah Radio, XM channel 156 and SIRIUS channel 195 as part of “The Best of XM” package.

The Derrick Ashong Experience will be a mash-up of politics, pop culture, social media, music and the arts, informed by Ashong's experiences and travels across the globe. Derrick N. Ashong, aka DNA, will offer inspiration, wisdom and an open mic to listeners of all ages and will welcome a wide variety of guests from the worlds of politics, new media, entertainment and beyond. He will take calls from across the country and respond to emails and social media messages from more than 100 countries around the world.

Ashong, 34, a Harvard graduate, was born in Ghana, West Africa. He was dubbed a "YouTube phenom" by The New York Times after a video of him at a Democratic presidential debate in Hollywood, California, became one of the most-viewed internet videos of 2008. Currently, the YouTube video has more than 1 million hits. He is the frontman of the band Soulfège, which combines the sounds of hip-hop, reggae, funk and West African highlife. Ashong won Billboard's 2007 World Song Writing Competition and appeared in Steven Spielberg's 1997 Amistad.

Ashong has lectured on five continents on the use of media as a tool for human development, including recent talks at the London School of Economics, King's College (Cambridge), the Reconciliation Forum in Washington, D.C., the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and before UK Parliament on the subject of "The Obama Generation." He is a member of the internationally recognized Next Generation Leadership Forum and a participant in the Arts & Entertainment task force of the U.S.-Islamic World Forum. He is also the founder of Take Back the Mic, a youth-centered cultural movement that encourages young people to take leadership in four key areas of life: art, society, business and politics.

New York, NY (January 11, 2010) – From February 11-18, 2010, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (MBFW), thousands of fashion industry professionals will come together in Bryant Park's iconic Tents for one last week before MBFW re-locates to Lincoln Center in September.
